Welcome & First Impressions
Step into the heart of this working permaculture farm, where sustainability meets hospitality. The reception area is surrounded by vibrant flowers, lush greenery, and striking natural features like a root-covered tree trunk. A key highlight here is the information board featuring a QR code linking to a recent Al Jazeera video about the farm. Your guide, Fatima, welcomes you into a space where nature and knowledge come together.
Gardens, Trails & Natural Power
Wander through food forests and garden trails that showcase diverse crops, from cacao and bananas to the impressive vanilla orchid in bloom. A small bridge crosses a brook that powers the farm’s hydroelectric system, demonstrating self-sufficiency in action. Stingless bees hum nearby, and even the community football field integrates into the farm’s landscape.
Sustainable Animal Farming
This farm raises pigs, cows, chickens, and tilapias in a way that prioritizes sustainability. Most of the feed is produced on-site, including nutrient-rich duckweed for the tilapias and recycled eggshells for the chickens. The animals graze naturally, reflecting a closed-loop system where nothing goes to waste.
Compost & Cultivation
Soil health is the foundation of this farm’s success. Rich compost, including thriving earthworm bins, nourishes crops ranging from jalapeños and eggplants to fruit trees and leafy greens. An insect hotel and stingless bee colonies highlight the farm’s commitment to biodiversity. Even the water reservoirs serve multiple functions, supporting both irrigation and schools of the majestic guapote.
Farm-to-Table Experience
For a true taste of the farm, don’t miss the chance to enjoy combucha and a meal made from its fresh, homegrown ingredients. The farm offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner (inquire for details). Enjoy an abundance of seasonal produce, farm-raised chicken, and creative dishes crafted from the land’s bounty. If it fits your schedule, inquire for the tour to end with a meal shared in good company—Fatima and the farm’s team included!
