To care for 1.6 ha food forest it takes a good shape, skill and knowledge of plants and animals. All the above come with experience, the more the merry.

Joel in spite of his young appearance has 40 years of experience under his belt, he started while he was a small child. No wonder it’s his nature to be with plants, working around for them for long hours under any weather conditions.

Here he explains in Spanish how to control gopher attacks on one plant in this case bamboo, using another plant which gophers find toxic.

Joel has a farm of his own in his native Nicaragua and though he just managed to bring his family to Costa Rica he dreams of returning back to work on his farm one day.
